Book review 1-9

Today, I read this book “THE LONG ROAD.” I chose this book because I had known about Terry Fox and his marathon, so I chose this book. Terry Fox is a man who ran a long distance marathon for children who has cancer with an article leg. When he was eighteen years old, he was a good student and a strong athlete, but his happy time stopped in March, 1977. One day, he was running to his house, he stopped suddenly for his pain of his leg. His mother looked out the window and his family took him to the hospital. Terry had cancer in his leg and there is only one answer. It is to amputate his leg. His doctor operated and he got an article leg three weeks later. Terry went home few weeks later, but he was often thinking about the children with cancer in the hospital. He thought “Only money can stop the pain”. He remembered a story about a man with one leg in the New York Marathon. Terry said “I can do that; I can run across Canada for money.” His mother said “You can’t run from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean on one good leg”, but he didn’t listen. He called his run, the “Marathon of Hope.” It was a long road. It was about 5300 miles (8530 km). Terry started his marathon in 1980. He ran in the day and he slept in the car at night. On his marathon, he met a lot of kind people and he was helped by many people. He also met very important people, and he got much money from many people. Few months later, he became famous, but he said “I’m not running for being famous. Think about the sick children. Think about the Marathon of Hope.” Few weeks later, he stopped running because of bad pain in his lung. He went back home by airplane and he went to the hospital. His run stopped 3339 miles (5372 km). He couldn’t finish his long road, but there was about 1400000 dollars for sick children. It was very good, but Terry had cancer again. He had lung cancer. Terry got the “Order of Canada,” the country’s number one award. Important people said thank you to him. Terry was smile, but his parents weren’t happy, because his son was very sick. His doctors couldn’t stop his cancer. Terry Fox died on June 28, 1981. Letters came to his family from around world. Terry became to be called “Canada’s hero.” Today, there are Terry Fox Runs around world, and people run and remember “Canada’s hero.” Terry is dead, but his message is always with us: “Stop the pain.” This book was very great!! I thought Terry Fix is very great man!! I do recommend you to read this book!! I also thought I want to join the Terry Fox Run. I want to join it someday.
